Shoulder pain is keeping you from the trails, the gym, and the life you love. Shoulder Pain That Won't Go Away on Its Own

Ignoring it, resting it, or hoping it gets better rarely works. Here’s what most people dealing with persistent shoulder pain experience — and why it matters.

You Keep Modifying, Not Recovering

You’ve stopped lifting overhead, sleeping on your side, or reaching across your body. The workarounds are piling up, but the pain is still there — and the activities you love are drifting further away.

Generic Advice Isn’t Getting Results

Rest, ice, and anti-inflammatories can mask symptoms. Without identifying the root cause — whether it’s a mobility deficit, rotator cuff weakness, or movement pattern — the problem keeps coming back.

Waiting Can Make Things Worse

Compensating around a painful shoulder places extra stress on your neck, elbow, and upper back. What starts as a manageable ache can escalate into a more complex injury that takes significantly longer to resolve.

Why Asheville Chooses Us for Shoulder Pain PT

At Breakthrough Performance Physical Therapy, we don’t treat symptoms — we treat the whole picture. Every session is one-on-one with a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy who takes the time to understand your goals, your movement patterns, and your life. Our performance-based approach is designed to get you back to what you love — and keep you there.

  • One-on-one care every visit — you’ll never be handed off to an aide or technician
  • Most patients experience significant pain reduction in 6 visits or less
  • No doctor’s referral required — NC is a Direct Access state

Dan at Breakthrough Performance is an exceptional resource for all your PT needs. Immediately upon our initial assessment he identified some old 20+ years of patterns that addressed the cause in areas I was not aware of. After several weeks, the daily workout performance videos and App helps you stay focused, and on track. His gym is well loved, and his education and background help patients reach their fitness and performance goals! Definitely a valuable resource.

I worked with Rachel Pascko on a couple issues over several months and I’ve seen dramatic improvement. She has a sophisticated understanding of biology and fitness training, she’s a fantastic teacher, and she’s just a lovely and pleasant person. I have referred family to this practice and would refer anyone else who could use a PT.

Would recommend to anyone! Had ACL reconstruction + meniscus repair 1.5 yrs ago. Things were moving slower than expected, had stubborn swelling and inflammation. Completed therapy at a different facility but felt I reached a plateau. Found Breakthrough where I worked with Megan for several weeks. She was amazing, worked with me to reach goals, improve my stability / strength as well as improve my confidence. Finally made me feel hopeful again.

    Common Questions

Everything you need to know about getting started with shoulder pain physical therapy in Asheville, NC — answered clearly and honestly.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to be seen?

No. North Carolina is a Direct Access state, which means you can schedule directly with our Doctors of Physical Therapy without a physician referral. You can call or book online and start treatment right away.

    Do you accept insurance?

We are a cash-based practice, which means we collect payment directly at the time of service. We provide itemized bills (superbills) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We also work with patients who have in-network and out-of-network benefits.

How many sessions will I need for shoulder pain?

Every case is different, but most of our patients experience significant pain reduction within 6 visits or less. After your initial evaluation, your therapist will give you a clear picture of your recommended plan and timeline.

What happens during my first appointment?

Your first visit is a comprehensive one-on-one evaluation with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. We assess your shoulder mobility, strength, movement patterns, and history to identify the root cause of your pain — then we get to work on a plan.

What treatments do you use for shoulder pain?

Depending on your condition, your plan may include manual therapy, dry needling, joint mobilization, myofascial release, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular re-education, and progressive strength training. All treatments are evidence-based and personalized to you.

    What are your hours?

We’re open Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 6 PM. We are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Call us at (828) 407-0368 or email dan@breakthroughperformanceavl.com to schedule.
